Production: The helmet
Building the Form Vacuumforming Details and finishing Painting

4. Painting:

The helmets were painted first with black primer, then with a dark metallic spray paint (I used Rustoleum metallic "Black night") and finally lightly drybrushed with a gunmetal color. The "Flamin' Eye 'O Sauron" was cut from plastic that was first heated and curved on a one gallon can. After being primed, painted red and airbrushed for a burnt look, the symbol was cemented to the front of the helm. I also used an airbrush to gradiate my horns from black to red at the tips.

Finally padding and laces were added, if you don't properly pad the helm you'll spend a lot of time with it falling over your eyes (look for this in the gallery).

The end result is a mighty helm that makes elve's testicles shrivel at it's mere mention!
